Job Title : Biology Teacher - part time

Reports To : Head of School

FLSA Status : Non-Exempt, 0.2 FTE. $11,462-$20,749 annual pay for a full-time 190 day school year, plus possible extra duty pay and higher education stipend. Actual pay will be prorated if position is filled after the start of the school year.

Customary Work Schedule : We are hiring one 0.2 Biology teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. Work week is Monday through Friday, with specific hours dependent upon the section assigned.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Faculty Dean and the Head of School, this teacher is responsible for teaching 9th grade Biology. The goal of Biology is to develop scientific mindsets along with the organizational and laboratory skills required for scientific inquiry. Students are encouraged to investigate natural phenomena and solve real-world problems that closely align with the eight science and engineering practices identified in the Next generation Science Standards (NGSS). This course prepares students for upper level high school courses, as well as helping them to become environmentally and socially conscious adults.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Prepare instructional materials and class lesson plans and maintain daily records of achievement
  • Prepare students to present an exhibit at a school-wide science fair
  • Instruct and support students who have mild to moderate or moderate to severe learning disabilities; may work with students who need extra academic or intervention support prior to identification for Special Education services
  • At the direction of the Director of Special Education, facilitate classroom learning and gather classroom data in support of IEP/504 or other student learning goals (if applicable)
  • At the direction of the English Learner Coordinator, facilitate classroom learning and gather classroom data in support of English learners, including providing integrated English Language Development in the Science classroom
  • Implement classroom behavior intervention plans where necessary monitoring student drills, practices, and related activities
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and classroom information in accordance with legal requirements and policies
  • Administer and score assessments
  • Collect, distribute, and assist in the management of learning materials, including textbooks, technology, etc.
  • Provide students with a holistic education through academic, social, and emotional support needed to effectively engage in learning. Make referrals to additional school resources and personnel, as needed
  • Supervise students during unstructured classroom time, thereby enabling a school environment that is safe, inclusive, and positive
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training during contracted hours to work collaboratively with teachers and staff to support students and work towards school goals.
  • Perform a variety of clerical duties to support effective instruction, including data entry, student record keeping, making copies of instructional materials, filing, word-processing classroom materials
  • Other duties, as assigned

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Ability to follow directions and manage instructional time effectively, prioritizing student learning.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, parents and the public with patience and courtesy, in a manner that reflects PCS values
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
