Position :
The University of Iowa Department of Anesthesia is seeking qualified Psychologist to join our team. The Pain Clinic Psychologist will carry out psycho-diagnostic and psycho-therapeutic activities for the Anesthesia Pain Medicine Service in Adults as well as Pediatric population. The Psychologist will develop psychological assessments and cognitive treatments in parallel with other multidisciplinary activities with general direction provided by the Director of the Pain Management Clinic.
Responsibilities o Determine psychodiagnosis and psychodynamics of participants via tests and interviews in the multidisciplinary Pain Clinic setting, o Apply various psychological tests and interpret the results in light of the presenting complaint, o Treat pain related psychological disorders to effect improvements, utilizing various behavioral adjustment techniques, o Collaborate with other clinical staff and other departments in developing multidisciplinary treatment programs for chronic pain patients, o Develop experimental designs and conduct clinical research in behavioral psychology, o Continually update and prepare diagnosis and clinical status reports, o Perform diagnostic evaluations, pre-procedural psychological screening, psychological testing, individual and group and family counseling, o Work closely with the treatment team and collaborate on treatment planning, provide education to the team and clients, and assist with program development, o Participate in clinical activities with faculty physicians, physiatrists, pharmacists, nurses, physical therapists, licensed clinical social workers and is expected to provide clinical supervision and lectures to residents and fellows.
Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.
Education Requirement:
Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology from an accredited university or professional school, including didactic & clinical training in pain management, health psychology & biological bases of behavior in clinical medicine.
Required Qualifications:
- Current valid license to practice psychology in the State of Iowa,
- Reasonable (1-3 years) experience in Clinical Psychotherapy,
- Training and experience in empirically supported treatments of pain conditions, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Biofeedback, etc.
- Documented experience dealing with a wide variety of pain conditions,
- Knowledge of biofeedback as it relates to pain management,
- Knowledge of tolerance & addiction in pain patients,
- Conversant in anatomy & physiology of pain, pharmacologic, surgical & procedural treatments for pain,
- Demonstrated ability to function independently without direct clinical supervision,
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Post doctoral training in health psychology with emphasis on chronic conditions,
- Experience in a pain clinic setting,
- Experience in managing pediatric pain using wide range of psychological modalities.
