  • The hourly equivalent for this position is $23.98 - $37.20. The salary range, identified in the job announcement, is for a new hire who is not yet a member of the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). After becoming a member of PERS (usually after six full calendar months of employment), the required 6% employee retirement contribution will be deducted from your pay, and your salary will be increased by 6.95% to help offset that and other cost increases (such as Medicare, Social Security, state taxes, and federal taxes). For new hires who are already active PERS members, the 6% salary deduction and 6.95% salary increase will be effective immediately upon hire.

  • In this job profile, we offer candidates new to OJD the first step of the salary range. You are potentially eligible for a 5% annual increase.

  • 10 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, 3 personal business days, separate sick and vacation paid leaves (prorated for part-time employees), and other employee benefits such as optional insurances and flexible spending plans.

  • OJD will pay you a 5% allowance for bilingual skills (includes ASL) if you can pass a skills test and are assigned to use those skills on the job.

Position Highlights

The

Marion County Circuit Court

in Salem, Oregon, is hiring a Criminal Annex Clerk (Court Operations Associate).

You will assist attorneys, litigants, agencies, and the public, in person and over the phone, by answering questions about criminal and traffic violation case management and processing. You will also open new criminal and traffic case files, perform data entry, accept case filings from the online filing system, schedule and reschedule criminal hearings as requested, coordinate multiple dockets, and process, review, and enter criminal pleadings. You may be required to enter the jail and interview Adults in Custody to determine if they are eligible for a court-appointed attorney. Part of your time may also be spent processing transport orders and public mail requests, as well as communicating with judicial staff to resolve issues about pending judgments.

Additionally, you will attend court to support a judge or a hearings referee by operating recording equipment, ensuring that accurate records are maintained, and that the courtroom is secure, managing exhibits, and coordinating actions of parties.

At the public counter, you will assist customers by processing payments for filings, fines, and fees, making payment arrangements with debtors, processing incoming mail, and checking in parties for court.

Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience providing customer service in-person and on the phone to people who may be facing challenging circumstances, high levels of stress, behavioral health issues, or trauma.

  • Experience performing a variety of clerical or administrative support tasks that included using a computer to enter and retrieve information, meeting strict deadlines, and maintaining accuracy when interrupted or distracted by a noisy work setting.

  • Experience explaining processes, procedures, policies, or decisions on behalf of an employer.

  • Experience handling cash, other monetary transactions, generating receipts, and crediting accounts.

  • Experience identifying and safeguarding confidential information and materials.

Working Conditions

  • This is a full-time position, and the work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per workweek.

  • Occasional after-hours or overtime work may be required.

  • This position is not eligible for hybrid or remote work.

  • This position works in a fast-paced, high-production environment.

  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people who may be facing challenging life circumstances, highly stressful situations, or trauma.

  • Long periods of sitting or standing at a computer may be required.

  • Regular use of the following equipment: electronic recording equipment, telephone, OJD-assigned computer with multiple monitors, copy machine, fax machine, and scanner.
