Digital Content Creator Job Description 

Location: Remote, Maryland 

Time: Full-Time, 40 hours per week


Summary: Progressive Maryland is a multi-racial, working-class political organization that is building a movement to save our planet and put working people in control of our government and economy while ending all forms of structural oppression within our state. We are made up of over 125,000 individual members and supporters, plus dozens of affiliated labor, religious, and community organizations statewide. 


Digital Content Creator: Under the supervision of the Communications Director, the Digital Content Creator will be responsible for content creation for digital communications. This includes graphic design, short video content creation, posting on Progressive Maryland’s social media pages, maintaining a social media calendar, growing the social media contingency of the communications team, livestreams and live engagement, and social media analytics.


Responsibilities:

  • Attend Progressive Maryland events to capture photos and video content
  • Collaborate with our team of organizers to create designs for our campaigns, including informational and promotional graphics and flyers, logos, digital campaign banners, and website merchandise designs
  • Generate videos related to our issue campaigns for social media and digital ads
  • Upkeep Progressive Maryland presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube
  • Manage Progressive Maryland’s social media calendar and all social media pages
  • Create content for social media, including captions and hashtags, and toolkits for sharing with others
  • Schedule timely and relevant posts for timelines and posts to stories on all social media platforms to keep our pages active and engaging
  • Share/repost timely and relevant content from organizational allies and endorsed candidates
  • Promote Progressive Maryland events and online actions via social media and other digital platforms
  • Livestream public virtual events from Zoom to Facebook
  • Livestream in-person events to Facebook
  • Host short livestream events with guest speakers on Instagram and Facebook
  • Lead social media attention around legislative priorities during the Maryland General Assembly session
  • Lead social media attention around our endorsed candidates 
  • Lead any other social media activity for any major events, including but not limited to live streaming, sharing live updates, and taking event photos
  • Lead the Progressive Maryland Social Media Team by recruiting volunteers and having regular meetings with team members under the supervision of the Communications Director
  • Train social media volunteers to be active administrators on Progressive Maryland’s associated chapter and task force social media pages under the supervision of the Communications Director
  • Create an annual Social Media Report to track growth and analytics with the help of the Communications Director
  • Develop and implement effective social media strategies
  • Engage in direct voter contact at the doors, over the phone, and at events as needed, especially during election years, with other staff members 
  • Any other digital content creation that comes up as necessary under the direction of the Communications Director


Qualifications 

  • Ability to edit and put together short video content via Canva or any other video editing software
  • Experience creating graphics and text for and posting on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok
  • Knowledge of Canva or any other graphic design software for content creation
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Zoom for live streaming meetings on Facebook
  • Basic computer literacy and a willingness to quickly learn and use new digital platforms 
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure while handling multiple projects 
  • Ability to work independently, as a member of a team, and as a team lead 
  • The ability to think, reflect, communicate, challenge conventional wisdom, make judgments in complicated situations, and show flexibility
  • A clear sense of the challenges our communities face, impatience in the face of those wrongs, and a drive to address them

 

Pluses (but not required) 

  • Experience creating and running digital advertisements 
  • Familiarity with Maryland political systems on the city, county, and state level 
  • Experience or strong interest in electoral campaign work 
  • Volunteer or work experience involving digital community organizing
  • Volunteer or work experience in non-profit communications 

Travel and Position Details: All positions require reliable access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license, laptop, phone, and willingness to travel throughout Maryland as needed. The Digital Content Creator is required to travel to Progressive Maryland events to livestream and capture photo and video content. The Digital Content Creator must be able to access Progressive Maryland’s social media profiles on the go to respond to urgent inquiries and live-posting during events as needed.

Compensation : The compensation for this position is in the range of $50,000-$65,000 depending on experience.
