Advertised Job Summary The Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive medical care for patients seeking services through University Health Services Primary Care Department. The Primary Care Department is part of an integrated and comprehensive college health care center that is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). The provider will practice as part of a care team model and have ample resources to assist with care including physicians, nurses, registered dietitians, counseling, social workers, psychiatrists, and other allied health professionals. The provider will assess, obtain diagnostic testing and provide diagnosis, treatment and management of injuries, illness and disease. The provider will determine a plan of care and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and all members of the health care team. The provider will write orders for fluids, medications, treatments and evaluate the patient’s response to that treatment. The provider will perform standard primary care office procedures, including suturing of simple lacerations and incision and drainage procedures. The provider will also provide education and implement prevention strategies to assist in the patient’s overall health and well-being. Incumbent will participate in quality improvement, continuing education, and other patient care programs established by Student Health. The provider will document patients’ medical histories, physical assessment results, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes within the electronic health record. Medical staff undergoes Peer Review bi-annually as part of the credentialing and privileging process. Incumbent is considered essential personnel.
Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)Master’s Degree from an accredited school of nursing
One year of experience post-training is required. Current license as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of South Carolina or eligibility to be licensed in the state of South Carolina.
Maintenance of clinical privileges is required as a condition of employment.
Requires current CPR certification, DEA license (or eligible) and a SC controlled substance certificate.
Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree from an accredited school of nursing
Three years of experience post-training
Extensive skill, knowledge base, and experience practicing in a high-volume primary care or urgent care facility. College health experience or experience working with adolescent and young adult age group and experience delivering care via telemedicine highly preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Ability to deal with patients in an effective, caring and concerned manner. Dependable, punctual and attentive to detail. Demonstrated high degree of competence in providing medical care. Ability to effectively manage workload and maintain productivity. Ability to interpret laboratory and other diagnostic findings. Ability to incorporate wellness, prevention, and advocacy during the provision of medical care. Thorough knowledge of health care delivery models including collaborative and team-based care. Ability to work independently with excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrate initiative, sensitivity to patient needs, and sound judgment. Ability to work effectively and inclusively in a diverse environment. Ability to quickly establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with colleagues and related agencies and professionals. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellence in customer care. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, e-mail, video conferencing
