Navy Ship and Air Command, Control, Communication, Computers, Combat, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) Systems Support (SACSS) team is seeking a
Pipefitter to join their team in
Chesapeake, VA. Our work on the SACSS program involves performing pier-side ship modernization services that enable the Navy to keep its current vessels operational while it simultaneously adds additional vessels to the fleet.
The Pipefitter is responsible for fitting pipe consisting of various materials such as steel, galvanized, copper, copper-nickel and stainless along with the appropriate valves and fittings. Utilizing various tools and equipment in accordance with drawings, arrangements, and blueprints. The job involves working at different heights, confined spaces, and different weather conditions.
- Applies basic pipefitting processes to join, surface, fabricate, repair, or replace piping systems (e.g., steel, cuni).
- Works from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, or work orders.
- Uses measuring tools and related equipment to target and fit piping.
- Bends, fits, manipulates and otherwise crafts piping layouts.
- Sil-brazes cuni pipe.
- Inspects completed work for conformance to specifications.
- Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced welders.
- Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Participates in special projects, as required.
Physical Requirements: - You must be able to work at extreme heights or small confined spaces.
- Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
- Must be able to work indoors/outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs.
Basic Qualifications: - HSD or GED
- Technical or Vocational training preferred.
- U.S. Citizen and able to pass a background check to gain access to Navy repair facilities.
- Experience as a marine pipefitter; experience installing marine/maritime piping systems.
- Must be versed with multiple materials of pipe (Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel, Copper, RIGID etc.).
- Knowledge of pipefitter equipment and power tools ; possess tools of the trade and the ability to bring them to job sites.
- Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings , and general correspondence.
- Must have a comprehensive knowledge of ship construction.
- Must be physically and medically capable to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the job as prescribed under OSHA standards.

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $19.08 - $31.86. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
