Job Description

The Teacher Assistant works closely with the Education team to ensure the development, implementation, and advancement of our mission. This position is responsible for assisting in providing a safe and productive environment to children living at RADIUS. The Teacher Assistant will implement a variety of evidence-based practices and academic curriculum to assist youth in meeting education goals. Teacher Assistants will meet regulatory and licensing requirements and maintain the policies of the organization.

Description

Duties and Responsibilities

·      Ability to work with students on a one-to-one basis or in small group situations.

·      Ability to perform approved de-escalation and physical intervention techniques

·      Follow written and oral directions to carry out educational programs of students

·      To assist in making the classroom environment cheerful and attractive.

·      To collect and record data.

·      To make teaching materials related to the curriculum.

·      To carry out structured behavior programs as directed by professional staff.

·      To maintain confidentiality of student information.

·      To interact/communicate with students as directed by professional staff.

·      To perform as a positive member of the educational teamwork effectively with other paraprofessionals in the classroom and a variety of professional staff affiliated with the program.

·      To cover classroom in absence of the teacher if needed

·      To perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements 

·      Must be at least 21 years of age

·      High School Diploma or equivalent required

·      Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, education, public administration, criminal justice, or related field preferred

·      Valid driver’s license

·      Hours of Work: Expect to work 20-40 hour a week minimum.

·      Travel: Some travel required.

·      Exposure: The exposure characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. For example, while performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is rarely exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be exposed to bloodborne and other hazardous chemicals. Finally, the noise level in the work environment can be loud. In all cases personal protective equipment will be provided to the employee in combination with adequate ventilation and other engineering controls to minimize the risk of exposure or other hazardous occurrence.
