Job Title: Wastewater Treatment Facility Superintendent

About the Position
A well-established environmental services company specializing in stormwater, wastewater, and water facility maintenance and construction is seeking an experienced wastewater treatment facility superintendent. This is a working superintendent role, meaning the individual will actively work in the field alongside the crew while also overseeing operations, maintenance, and construction activities at water/wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations. The role requires strong technical expertise in wastewater systems, leadership skills, and the ability to ensure efficiency, compliance, and high-quality service delivery.
Responsibilities
· Oversee the daily operations, maintenance, and repair activities at water/wastewater treatment facilities and pumping stations while actively working in the field.
· Perform hands-on maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems, including bar screens, pumps, clarifiers, aeration systems, sludge handling systems, chemical feed systems, and other plant equipment.
· Manage and coordinate field teams performing mechanical repairs, preventative maintenance, and emergency response services.
· Ensure all work is performed in compliance with state, federal, and environmental regulations.
· Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to improve equipment longevity and facility efficiency.
· Review engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents for construction and maintenance projects.
· Work closely with project managers, engineers, and regulatory agencies to coordinate design-build projects and facility upgrades.
· Conduct safety inspections, enforce OSHA compliance, and ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
· Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to facility operations and maintenance activities.
· Provide technical expertise, leadership, and training to staff to improve performance and efficiency.
Qualifications
· Minimum of five years of experience in water/wastewater treatment plant and pumping station station operations, maintenance, or construction.
· Experience as a working superintendent or hands-on leadership role in water/wastewater facility maintenance.
· Strong knowledge of water/wastewater treatment processes, mechanical systems, and regulatory compliance.
· Hands-on experience with process piping systems, aeration systems, clarifiers, pumps, and chemical feed systems.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering specifications.
· Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and process issues.
· Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
· Working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and environmental compliance standards.
· Wastewater treatment operator certification (preferred but not required).
